This Week's Sermon: Prophecy continued ( 4-28-15 )

You will no doubt read articles pertaining to Bible prophecy written by people who are probably hoping something they have seen going on in the world they think appears to have some connection to one of the seal, trumpet, and/or vial judgments in the book of Revelation.

Let's remember that what John wrote about in regard to the seal, trumpet and vial judments in the book of Revelation is restricted to the time frame within the 7 year tribulation period and only within that time frame.

This is why God told John to come up hither to see what shall happen after he wrote the letters to the 7 churches.

After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.   Revelation 4:1

There are general and specific signs that Jesus said for us to watch for that cover a time period of 2000 years to our present day – that is, when Peter spoke out and said;

But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:16-21

While Joel's prophecy of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the end times happened 2000 years ago when Peter spoke these words, some of what Peter said pertains to the future 7 year tribulation period just before Jesus returns literally to earth.

However, the coming of Jesus only to the clouds, at least 7 years before His return when He sets up His Millennial Kingdom here on earth, the event in which evangelicals refer to as the “ rapture “ was not revealed to Peter but was later revealed to Paul.

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. “  1 Corinthians 15:51-52

General signs that Jesus said for us to watch for such as an increase of natural catastrophes on planet earth are definitely happening today, even before the 7 year tribulation.

Also prophetic signs of society getting more and more wicked and evil is also definitely for sure happening today, even before the 7 year tribulation period.

My friend, do not be caught off guard when Jesus descends from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God to the clouds and raises the dead in Christ first up into the clouds and then catches those of us who are also in Christ and are still alive and remain, to meet our Lord in the air.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Wherefore comfort one another with these words. “   1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

Yes, we could still die before this event happens.

We just do not know when Jesus will come for us.

That is why we need to be watching and living in expectation of His return.

Because we do not know when Jesus will come is why Jesus said to be watching so that day does not take us by surprise.

Notice Paul, even 2000 years ago, who was living in expectation even back then and was watching for Jesus to return said;

Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

If we claim to belong to Jesus we should be comforting one another with the words of Paul's prophecy about Jesus coming back to catch us up to be with Him forever.
