This Week's Sermon: Prophecy/Grace continued ( 5-19-15 )

My friend, do not believe the recent teaching that Jesus will return on September 20, 2015

because of the blood moon.

This is another myth within evangelicalism today in which a church person took something mentioned in science and took a Bible prophecy from the future 7 year tribulation period and brought it in to today's time period.

Joel's prophecy of the time for the sun to be darkened and the moon turned into blood that Peter quoted;

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. “  Joel 2:31

will not happen until after the sixth seal is opened during the 7 year tribulation period;

And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; “  Revelation 6:12

The rapture – that is, Paul's prophecy of Jesus descending to the clouds to catch His people up into the clouds to be with Him forever will have already happened before the sixth seal is opened.

Jesus could still come today, if He so chooses.

I wish He would.

It is interesting that the prophet Joel prophesied that people can and will come to salvation in Jesus even during the 7 year tribulation period...the same time frame he prophesied the sun turning dark and the moon turning into blood;

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call. “  Joel 2:32

The view that after the rapture nobody can come to salvation in Jesus is totally unbiblical.

I will now talk about God's grace.

God's grace will continue to exist even after the rapture and during all of the 7 year tribulation period and even throughout the Millennium.

Yes, even though the 7 year tribulation period will be a time of God's wrath, He will forgive anyone during that time who comes to repentance and believes the gospel of Jesus Christ.

That friend we once witnessed to who, for now, rejects coming to Jesus might come to Jesus after the rapture when he or she sees that we are gone and the wrath of God is being poured out just as we said will happen.

It is interesting that all through the Old Testament even though God judged and poured out His wrath on even His own chosen Israel, there were many times He withdrew His wrath against their disobedience in turning to the world's gods and serving them rather than Him, and as Samuel said, for His own sake forgave them and blessed them.

I love what Isaiah said;

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made.

For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart.

I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. “  Isaiah 57:15-18

For us today who believe in Jesus even though we will be judged for our works during the time we are saved ( not before we were saved ) we may or may not receive rewards, depending on how our works come out of the fire;

Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.   1 Corinthians 3:13-15

It is God's grace that saved us and forgave us and it is His grace that will keep us in Heaven even though our works might not get us any rewards.

Rewards in Heaven will depend on our motive in why we did what we did.

God knows our heart even though He has forgiven us.

Remember, God is a God of grace and a God of judgment both.

He never changes.
