This Week's Sermon: Prophecy continued “ The Rapture “ ( 4-8-15 )

The “ rapture “, which is the evangelical title given to the future event of 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 is described by the apostle Paul as this;

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.“   1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

The translated phrase “ caught up “ in the Greek reads, “ aprayesometha “, meaning, shall be seized, plucked, catch, pull, take by force.

The English word given to this translation by today's evangelicals, “ rapture “, means, according to Webster's definition of the word “ rapture “ - to be carried away with joy, love, ecstasy, an expression of great joy and pleasure...a carrying away or being carried away in body or spirit.

It is interesting that Webster defined it as in the body or in the spirit.

He must have understood the Greek Biblical meaning of what Paul was talking about in this Bible verse.

Paul also described the event today's evangelicals call “ the rapture “ as this;

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

“   1 Corinthians 15:51-53

When the event known today among evangelicals as “ the Rapture “ happens, those who are looking for Jesus to return will, in the twinkling of an eye, be bodily changed from being corruptible, as we are in the present, to being incorruptible.

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. “   Hebrews 9:28

When those of us who are saved by our faith in the blood of Jesus are changed bodily in the blink of an eye, will bodily rise in the air to meet our Lord in the clouds and so shall we ever be with our Lord.

One sign that Jesus told us to watch for is happening presently.

There is a magician in the town of Las Vegas, Nevada, who can raise his own body into the air and fly through the air.

He can even imitate the Biblical “ laying on of hands “ and cause anyone to physically rise above the ground into the air.

This is no surprise.

The antichrist will also be able to do supernatural things to make people think the Holy Bible has nothing to do with it.

Just as so many people have claimed to be abducted by aliens from outer space, so, when the “ rapture” takes place, the secular world will write it off and explain it away as either being alien abduction or the gift the magician in Las Vegas has of being able to raise people off the ground and into the air.

This is another sign of the return of Jesus in the Biblical event we call, the rapture.
