This Week's Sermon ( 12-18-18 )

" And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.  "   John 1:14

Some of us celebrate Christmas because of Jesus...not because of anyone or anything else.

Christmas is the time we devote to acknowledging the birth of Jesus, who John referred to as " The Word ".

John said;

" In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
  John 1:1-3

Notice that John clearly said that " the Word was made flesh ", not was created flesh.

My friend, Jesus is not a created human being created by God, since John clearly said Jesus is God.

Jesus is literally God in the flesh, who chose to leave His throne in Heaven and come to earth and be born in the womb of Mary.

Mary became the mother of the baby that God became in her womb, and was born during her virginity, when she knew no man.

Luke clearly said;

" Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. "   Luke 1:34-35

We must also remember this baby that was born who was given the name, Jesus;

" And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. "   Luke 1:31

clearly said;

" I and my Father are one. "   John 10:30

This baby Jesus also said He always existed;

" Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. "   John 8:58

My friend, I will believe in this baby Jesus, born of a virgin, as we acknowledge and honor Him this Christmas, to my dying breath.

Thomas admitted having trouble believing who this baby named Jesus claimed to be, even though he was with Jesus for 3 years until Jesus died.

But after Thomas saw the nail wounds after Jesus came forth from the dead, said to Jesus;

" And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.  "   John 20:28

Notice Thomas did not only call Jesus his Lord, but he also called Jesus his God.

Thomas knew at this moment that this baby born in Bethlehem, is God.

I like what Jesus said in response to him;

" Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.  "   John 20:29

My friend, that refers to you and me.

Keep your faith in Jesus to the end.

This baby Jesus is our only hope for salvation.
