This Week's Sermon ( 12-6-16 )

" But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. "   1 John 1:7-10

This statement of John refers to those of us who believe in Jesus Christ.

This is why John repeatedly said;

" we "

Yes, even those of us who claim to follow Jesus must live right.

This is why John said;

" But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, "

We must acknowledge our sin, confess it, repent and turn from our sins and ask God to forgive us.

True repentance requires acknowledgement that we sinned and confession of our sin, to turn from our sins, and then we will be forgiven.

This is why John said;

" If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. "

I was thinking today of all my past sins and present sins, all through my life to the present.

Even though I get down on my knees everyday and confess my sins and ask God to forgive me, I still remember what I have done wrong.

What is wonderful to know is that because of God's grace that He bestows upon us, not only does He forgive us for our sins, He forgets how we sinned against Him.

Even though we remember our sins and all the things we have done wrong, He chooses to forget our sins when He forgives us.

What hope we have when we stand before Him.

Paul remembered his own sins he committed and wrote about them in the New Testament.

Paul said about himself;

" This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. "   1 Timothy 1:15

Notice Paul said;

" I am ",

not, I was.

But he also knew God forgave him and that God does not remember what sins he did or does.

Nor will it ever be held against him.

Praise the Lord.

We have hope.
