This Week's Sermon (7-30-19 )

" Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. "   1 Corinthians 3: 13-15

The Greek reads as one escaping from the flames.

We are saved by grace through faith, not by works.

" For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
  Ephesians 2:8-9

Though, like me, many of us will not receive rewards but yet we will be saved and remain in Heaven because of our faith in Jesus.

When we stand before the judgment seat of Christ;

" For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.  "   2 Corinthians 5:10

And by the way, the Greek word translated " bad ", means evil.

Even Paul included himself in this judgment even as a born again believer in Jesus.

Paul knew we will all be judged for our motive and intention in what we do for Jesus and everything else.

Paul called himself presently, not past, the chief of sinners even though he was a born again believer in Jesus;

" This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.  "   1 Timothy 1:15

Paul even called himself presently, not past, a wretched man;

" O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?  "   Romans 7:24

Well, Paul did not know me.

If anyone deserves hell, I do.

But by the grace of God and by my faith in Jesus and not by faulty works and faulty motives, I will be as the one escaping the flames and receiving no rewards but will still be saved and be able to spend eternity in Heaven with Jesus and not be burning in eternal hell.

Keep your faith in Jesus.
