This Week's Sermon ( 12-6-17 )

" And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.  "   Revelation 20:13-15

" And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. "   Revelation 19:20

" And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. "   Revelation 20:10
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. "   Revelation 20:14
" And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. "   Revelation 20:15

" But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. "   Revelation 21:8

I know hell is not a popular subject today.

Hell is rarely mentioned in sermons nowadays.

There was a time when some preachers were criticized for preaching too much about hell.

People got tired of hearing about hell.

Nowadays, few believe hell exists and even if they do believe hell exists, they think hell is only a temporary place of punishment, not eternal, even though Jesus said it is eternal.

People believe Jesus lied about hell being eternal.

Many people think God is too good and too loving to let anyone go to hell, even though Jesus Himself said that more people will end up in hell than will make it to Heaven.

Jesus clearly said;

" Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.  "   Matthew 7:13-14

" Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.  "   Luke 13:23-24

One famous talk show host said to the world - " I cannot believe that a loving God would let anyone go to hell. "

Yes, I talked about God's love for the human race in my last sermon but God still requires humans to believe in one thing and that is His only begotten Son, Jesus, in order to escape damnation in eternal hell.

It is God's love that motivated Him to give Himself in suffering and dying for us in order to keep us out of hell.

Jesus is our only hope in escaping eternal hell.

Whether we choose to believe in Jesus or not...it is up to us.

The choice is ours.

God provided only one way to Heaven and that is through His only begotten Son, Jesus.

We either believe this or we do not.

Jesus is not one of many ways as if He were an option or on a list of multiple choices as some are now believing today.

Jesus is the only way, literally.

And by the way, no human being can earn Heaven.

We do not make it to Heaven by our works.

No human has good enough works to make it to Heaven.

This is why Jesus had to suffer and die like He did.

We can only make it to Heaven by believing in God's only begotten Son, Jesus and asking Him to wash away our sins in His precious blood, clothe us in His righteousness and bestow His grace and mercy on us.

The apostle Paul called himself a wretched man.

Well, Paul did not know me.

I'm more wretched than he was.

If God can forgive me for my failures and sins, God can forgive anyone who repents and rests their faith in His only begotten Son, Jesus.

If we choose to take the chance believing someone or something else when we draw our last breath in this earthly life as the rich man did, we will end up where the rich man did.

Jesus said;

" And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.   Luke 16:23-24

I cannot imagine how horrible hell is...even before hell is cast into the lake of fire which seems to be even worse.

My friend, before we die we must believe in Jesus in order to escape this eternal damnation.

After we die it is then too late to change our mind just as it was for the rich man.

Please believe in Jesus and tell others to do the same.

And always keep your faith in Jesus to the end.

This Week's Sermon (2-28-17)

And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. "   Luke 16:22-31

There is some disagreement among Evangelicals today as to whether the soul goes anywhere after physical death.

Some believe the soul stays in the grave until the resurrection.

It is quite evident from what Jesus said, that the rich man and the beggar did not stay in the grave after physical death...nor did Abraham.

It is also clear that Jesus told the criminal hanging there next to Him that he would not be left in the grave but will be with Him after physical death...even that same day.

" And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. "   Luke 23:42-43

Paul did not mention being left in the grave.

" We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. "   2 Corinthians 5:8

" For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: "   Philippians 1:23

James never mentioned soul sleep either.

" For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. "   James 2:26

John saw the souls of those who were slain because of their faith in Jesus. If their souls were still in the grave, then John would not have seen them in Heaven.

" And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.  "   Revelation 6:9-11

My friend, when we draw that last breath in this earthly life, we will either be with Jesus in Heaven or in hell, depending on who we put our faith in.

I choose to believe in Jesus.

My wife also believed in Jesus as being quite literally the only way to Heaven, ( not merely one of many ways to Heaven as some people now think ) and I know she is in Heaven with Jesus because of her faith in Him.

Let me encourage all of you to put your faith in Jesus Christ and keep your faith in Jesus Christ to the end.

This Week's Sermon ( 1-26-17 )

" For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:  "   Romans 9:3

" And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.

Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written. "   Exodus 32:31-32

It is interesting the love Moses and Paul had for the Jews, that they would pay the price of going to hell, if it meant the Jews would be saved.

I can relate to this kind of love because I loved my wife so much I would have gone to hell if it meant her being in Heaven.

What is interesting is that we do not have to pay the price to get those we love into Heaven.

Jesus paid the price.

" Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. "   Acts 20:28

If they will just believe in Jesus, they will be saved.

The criminal on the cross believed in Jesus just shortly before he died.

My wife also believed in Jesus and I know she is with Him there.

This Week's Sermon ( 1-13-17 )

" And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. "   Luke 21:34-36

" Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. "   Matthew 24:42

I was talking to an unsaved person recently who told me she thinks there is something going on with the way things are in the world today.

If an unsaved person can wonder what is going on from watching the news and seeing things going on with nature being destructive all over the world, how much more should we who claim to belong to Jesus Christ be considering we could be nearing the time the Bible prophesied.

This unsaved person I talked to told me she thinks the end of the world might be coming.

We as born again followers of Jesus need to quit using the excuse - " we don't know when Jesus is coming " ( which I have learned is merely used as an excuse to hide someone's true feeling that he or she actually does not want Jesus to come back, as they are in love with themselves and their life here on earth ).

This is sad but true.

Even though we do not know when Jesus will return, Jesus told us we are to watch for His return.

" Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. "

However, in recent months, I have been hearing more and more evangelicals tell me that they want Jesus to come back soon...( something I have not heard in years ) mainly because of the bad times in the world presently.

Listening to this unsaved person opened my eyes to the fact that since the unsaved are wondering, we might really be nearing the time Jesus will return.

Before my wife died, she told me she felt that Jesus would be returning soon.

We as followers of Jesus need to be watching for our Lord to come back.

I ask Jesus every day to please come and rapture us up to be with Him.

If Paul, John, Peter and the early christians thought Jesus was returning 2000 years ago, how much more should we today.

It is interesting that when John wrote the book of Revelation 2000 years ago, some of his last words were;

" Even so, come, Lord Jesus. "   Revelation 22:20

John wanted Jesus to come back so much.

I do too.
