Romans 2:11 ( posted 10-27-11 )

“ For there is no respect of persons with God.  “

Let’s continue.

Even though Paul said the Jew first and then the Gentile;

“ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. “ Romans 1:16

“ Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; “   Romans 2:9

“ But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: “   Romans 2:10

he did not mean that God showed respect of persons or favoritism over anyone.

Since the Jew is God’s chosen, the gospel came to them first…and then to the Gentile.

The same Jesus who said;

I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.  “      Matthew 15:24

also said whosoever will;

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. “ John 3:16

“  Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. “  Mark 16:15

and John wrote in Revelation;

“  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. “   Revelation 22:17

God is not a respecter of persons.

This applies to society in general and also applies to those who follow Jesus Christ.

Paul said to those who follow Jesus;

“  But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons. “   Colossians 3:25

Peter said to those who follow Jesus;

“ And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: “ 1 Peter 1:17

Paul also said;

“ And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him. “ Ephesians 6:9

Moses also said;

“ For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: “   Deuteronomy 10:17

Before I continue with verse 12, I need to make clear who the Holy Bible declares is a christian.

After listening to a radio preacher recently, I marvel at how confused some evangelists are or have become as to who is a “ christian.”

Webster has a variety of definitions of the term “ christian”.

1.) “ a person professing belief in Jesus as the Christ, or in the religion based on the teachings of Jesus.”

2.) “ a decent, respectable person.”

3.) “ humane, decent, etc.”

Society in general defines a “ christian “ as someone affiliated with a church or religion.

Contrary to general public opinion, the Holy Bible has a complete different definition for the word “ christian.”

The people who came to this continent who eventually broke free from the dominant religion they were enslaved to for so many centuries, which mistreated anyone who spoke out against the abuse and the murderous rage the religion poured out on anyone who did not go along with its belief system, were not “ christians “ by Biblical definition.

They were members of the dominant religion who realized freedom was better than dictatorship and therefore established this nation on the basis of freedom… not a religion or belief, not even their own.

As a matter of fact, to be included in this newly founded freedom was meant to be the freedom to believe in whoever or whatever any of its citizens chose or wanted to believe.

Contrary to popular evangelical and religious belief, this nation called the United States of America is not a “ christian “ nation by Biblical definition.

This nation was not founded on Jesus Christ nor was it founded on the belief in Jesus Christ.

President George Washington, including the 15 presidents before him and those who were elected after him were not believers in Jesus Christ, nor were they followers of Jesus Christ.

The dominant religion these people broke free from is a religion that believes that Jesus is the Son of God and the Christ but it is not a follower of Jesus Christ and therefore, even though considered to be by society in general a “ christian “ religion, by Biblical definition, is not “ christian.”

When a religion or church claims to believe in Jesus but includes other famous names as “ gods” to be prayed to and worshiped in addition to Jesus Christ, these religions or churches are definitely not followers of Jesus Christ. They are followers of multiple gods…not followers of Jesus. Nobody can follow both.   LOL

As in worshipping God and money, Jesus clearly said you cannot worship both. It has to be one or the other.

Adding to the Holy Bible other teachings that are not taught within the Holy Bible makes a religion and church who does this not christian either, by Biblical definition.

Just because this nation I live in has stood by Israel since 1948, does not make it a “ christian “ nation either.

Just because this nation gives to the poor does not make it a christian nation either.

Luke wrote;

“ And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. “   Acts 11:26

The Greek word “ Christian” means literally a follower of Jesus.

This does not include following anything or anyone else or believing in anything or anyone else or praying to anything or anyone else or worshipping anything or anyone else.

This is following Jesus alone and no other.

This is the difference in Webster’s definitions of the word “ christian “ and most people’s definitions of the word “ christian ” and the Bible’s definition for the word “ christian.”

These “disciples “ in this verse were already believers in Jesus Christ. They were now devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Within religions and evangelicalism many are believers in Jesus Christ but not actual followers of Jesus Christ or “ christians” by Biblical definition.

The famous radio preacher I listened to seems to think that America, its leaders in Washington and all its inhabitants are christians.

Only a follower of Jesus is a christian, according to the Holy Bible.

I will continue with verse 12 of Romans chapter 2 in the next study.
