John 9:41 ( posted 3-18-11 )

  " The Faith "

After a current news article about the health of a famous crusade and television evangelist who is now 92 years old with pneumonia who in the past used to believe that Jesus is the only way to Heaven but now believes Jesus is only a way - that is, one of many ways to Heaven, I was moved to write this text about what the Bible refers to as " the faith ".

While I'm aware that this famous evangelist is certainly not the only evangelical who no longer believes that Jesus is literally the only way to Heaven, I'm actually more surprised to learn this of him than the others who now believe like he does.

But then again, Judas, who was one of Jesus' " chosen " disciples who walked with Jesus for 3 years and then changed his faith in Jesus and according to the Bible ended up in hell, and Peter, who was also one of Jesus' " chosen " disciples who also walked with Jesus for 3 years who also changed his faith in Jesus and returned back to Judaism until Paul confronted him openly and fortunately got Peter back to " the faith" and Demas who was in the ministry with Paul left " the faith " because of his love for the world and Thomas, who was also one of Jesus' " chosen " disciples who walked with Jesus for 3 years, who did not believe Jesus' word that He would rise from the dead in 3 days until he saw Jesus and saw His wounds to verify that He was risen from the dead...I should not be surprised about this television evangelist.

If it happened to this evangelist and these people in the Bible, it can certainly happen to any of us.

According to Jesus,Paul and Peter, it will happen to born again christians on a wide scale...before Jesus returns.

This is known as what Paul called " apostasy." It is when a person who once believed in someone or something chooses to no longer believe in who or what he or she once believed in.

For example:

There are people today like this television evangelist who once believed Jesus' claim to be the only way to Heaven who no longer believe Jesus is the only way to Heaven but now believe Jesus is one of many ways to Heaven.

A born again christian or any churchgoer who says like this famous evangelist has said -

1.) " It is up to God who goes to Heaven "

2.) " We will be surprised who makes it to Heaven "

3.) " Eventually all human beings will make it to Heaven "

4.) " God is too loving to send anyone to eternal hell "

5.) " He is in Heaven because he was such a good person and was well liked by so many people "

is clearly someone who does not believe or no longer believes in what the apostle Paul called " the faith ".

What Paul called " the faith " consists of and is totally centered in and around Jesus Christ.

Jesus made many claims about Himself, 2 of which are these;

" I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6

and;

" Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. " John 8:23-24

My friend, we either choose to believe Jesus at His word or we choose not to believe Him.

Jesus is quite explicit in what He claimed about Himself.

God does not make the decision who goes to Heaven and who does not go to Heaven. He has given human beings the right to choose whether to go to Heaven or to go to hell.

Biblical " being chosen and predestined " in Ephesians, not John Calvin church company doctrine predestination, is to be spiritually reborn into God's family, justified, sanctified, adopted into God's family as a son and/or daughter, made a joint heir with Jesus Christ, made righteous with the righteousness of Jesus Christ, forgiven, made a new creature, and conformed to the image of God's Son Jesus only upon personal acknowledgement of our sin and acknowledging that we are sinners and that we need to be forgiven, feeling guilt and shame and remorse for our sins, repenting and turning from our sins and then putting our inner faith in Jesus Christ and His gospel...not in being pre-programmed to do this without the need for repentance and faith...just by joining one of these predestination churches - the pastor telling us the reason we belong to and found these predestination churches is because we were predestined to go to Heaven.

Church company doctrine predestination and their doctrine of being chosen is merely used as a license to sin and to condone sin in the life of the believer. Their doctrine requires no faith, no repentance, no acknowledgment of our sins, no remorse or guilt for our sin, and no personal commitment to remain and stay in " the faith " .

Jesus Himself said;

" If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; " John 8:31

Yes my friend, Jesus clearly said;

" If "

If what??

" If ye continue in my word,"

Yes, that is clearly what Jesus said;

" If "

" If ye continue in my word,"

And who makes the choice to continue in Jesus??

" you "

Not Jesus!

Remember this Biblical fact...

Judas was also " chosen " but according to the Bible, he is now in eternal hell.

Jesus Himself said Judas was " chosen ";

" Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? " John 6:70

Notice Jesus said all 12 of them were chosen, not just 11.

He included Judas.

 Luke quoted Peter saying;

" Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take. Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection. And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles." Acts 1:16-26

And yes my friend, Judas was called and chosen to be an "apostle" which means he was sent and chosen by God just as the apostle Paul was.

Like our freedom and right to do by our own choice, Judas made the choice to not " continue " in Jesus.

Paul said;

" I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: " 2 Timothy 4:7

So much for the modern day church company doctrine of predestination and eternal security. LOL

Jesus told us how to get to Heaven but the choice is clearly ours as to what we want to believe in how to get to Heaven!

When we get to Heaven there will be no surprise as to who made it to Heaven concerning those we personally know.

Jesus said clearly;

" If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; " John 8:31

" By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. " John 13:35

Like anything else in life we can choose to believe who and what we want to believe in.

Religions and church company doctrines are like the casinos in Las Vegas. We can put our money in any slot machine or lay our money on any table we hope will hit the jackpot. Likewise we can gamble our eternal destiny on any religion or church company to get us to Heaven.

For me, I choose to put my faith in Jesus.

Since Jesus claimed to be the only way to Heaven and not just one of many ways to Heaven, then I believe Him.

Since He said to make it to Heaven I must choose to continue in Him, then I will choose to continue in Him.

I will say this from my own life experience with people over the years.

Only people who rest their faith in Jesus have peace when it comes time to die.

People who do not put their faith in Jesus are scared to die and fight hard to avoid death... or they commit suicide in order to speed up the dying process so to avoid going through the process of worrying about where they will be after they draw that last breath.

My Dad told me when I was a child - " Memorize the words printed in red."

What he meant by this is, for me to put my faith in Jesus and what Jesus said.

I was with my Dad and watched my Dad draw his last breath.

I will tell you he died in peace because he believed in Jesus and everything He said.

According to Jesus, that is what got my Dad to Heaven.

My Dad knew he could not earn his way to Heaven. He knew Jesus and only Jesus was able to get him into Heaven...not anyone nor anything else.

I'm proud of my Dad.

Jesus said to Thomas;

" Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. " John 20:29

----------

“  Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

Let’s continue.

“  Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin:

Jesus also said at another time;

“  If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.

He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. “   John 15:22-24

On both occasions Jesus said;

ye should have no sin: John 9:41, the verse of our study

they had not had sin:   John 15:22

they had not had sin:   John 15:24

Including everything Jesus taught, the Holy Bible in its entirety teaches that every human being is born in sin. No one is sinless and no one is without sin.

We are born in sin, separated from God because of the sin of one man Adam.

Paul said under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Whom Jesus is one with as well as the Father as they are all 3 one in the same God;

“ Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. “  Romans 5:12-15

Jesus is not saying that it is possible for a human being to be without sin because of ignorance when He said;

If ye were blind, ye should have no sin:

nor is Jesus saying that a human being becomes a sinner later in life when He said;

but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

Just the fact that Jesus said;

therefore your sin remaineth.

shows that He is saying that their sin already exists.

What Jesus is actually saying to us is - fat chance, but if we could be totally ignorant of sin without knowledge of it, we would probably be without sin.

But in reality, God made us in His own image and in His own likeness and He created us with the knowledge of sin and the knowledge of God's truth so therefore we do have sin.

" Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. " Romans 1:19

When Jesus said;

If ye were blind,

and when Paul said;

“ but sin is not imputed when there is no law. “

is in no wise a contradiction to Jesus’ own and Paul’s own teaching that human beings are born in sin since Paul said in the same sentence earlier;

“ For until the law sin was in the world: “

and that even though they before the Law had not sinned by eating of the forbidden tree in disobedience as Adam did;

“ even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, “

death, separation from God because of sin still existed in all human beings;

“ Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, “

My friend, there is no chance any human being can be ignorant enough to be without sin on the basis of ignorance.

Otherwise, Jesus would not have had to die to atone and redeem us from sin.

Paul said clearly that no one is or ever has been ignorant of sin;

“ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: “   Romans 1:18-20

Yes, Paul said;

“ Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. “

and;

“ so that they are without excuse: “

Most people think in their mind it is unfair for God to declare all of us to be sinners because of Adam who lived so long ago.

Most people think - “ I’m not such a bad person - God will let me into Heaven”

If a person thinks he or she has done nothing wrong then he will never repent. If we do not think we need forgiven then we will never acknowledge that we are sinners and need Jesus as our Lord and Savior...not to mention repentance, which Jesus says we need to do and believe the gospel in order to be saved.

Nobody is made to be blind by satan or God or anyone but themselves.

Jesus clearly said about people who harden their heart;

“  For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing,

and their eyes they have closed; “    Matthew 13:15

Yes, Jesus said clearly we are the ones who make ourselves blind to the truth;

and their eyes they have closed;

During the course of life, we can come from having the knowledge of God’s truth;

“ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: “

Romans 1:18-20

to turning to “ the faith “ and then turning to apostasy… becoming an apostate;

At that time many will turn away from the faith…”    Matthew 24:10

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;  “   1 Timothy 4:1-2

“ Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first,… “   2 Thessalonians 2:3

This completes my study on John chapter 9.

I hope you have been blessed by this study and I do hope you put your faith in Jesus.

The Lord bless you!
