John 12:25 ( posted 10-24-13 )

  He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Let's continue.

  He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

The Greek word “ phulasei “ translated  shall keepmeans to be on guard, preserve, obey, beware. avoid.

Even though Paul said;

“  Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:   Philippians 1:6

Jesus said that our end is partly our own effort;

and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

This does not mean that we can earn Heaven nor can we earn salvation.

However, if we think we can be in love with our self, there is no room for Jesus.

Jesus also warned that because of sin increasing before He returns, many of us who believe in Him will wax cold in our heart but the one who endures to the end of life will be the one who will be saved.

This requires a willful act and choice of obedience, abstaining from sin and the love to commit sin, giving in to hatred, bitterness, vengeance, etc...

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.“  Matthew 24:12-13

For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: “   1 Thessalonians 4:3

Abstain from all appearance of evil. “   1 Thessalonians 5:22

Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. “   1 Timothy 4:3

Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; “    1 Peter 2:11

Even though we are perfect in Christ there is obviously still the need for repentance and obedience...even for a born again christian who believes in Jesus.

As with Demas who left Paul, there is always the temptation to fall in love with our self.

If we do this, then there is not room for Jesus in our heart.

The choice is ours.

Today, I was reminded as I looked at the beauty of God's creation in the Rocky Mountains.

How terrible it would be to be confined in eternal hell and not to be able to see beautiful things like that ever again.

Is our treasure in Heaven or is it with our self and the world?

Jesus clearly said for where our treasure is there our heart will be also;

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.“  Matthew 6:19-21

Clearly we cannot be of “ the faith “ and be in love with sin.

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? “   2 Corinthians 13:15

I will continue with verse 26 in the next study.
