Where is Your Heart Today?
" Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness." 2 Peter 3:13 (KJV)
As a born again christian, is this really honestly something you are looking forward to? Or are you like Demas whom Paul wrote about in 2 Timothy 4:10, "... for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me..." Knowing Paul, I'm certain that Demas was a Spirit filled born again christian or Paul would not of had him with him in the ministry for even one day. But if this happened to Demas it can and will happen to christians today... and very much is. We live in a day when christians, even pastors and sunday school teachers are going around saying, "who is to say what is right or wrong..." and "the Lord accepts people as they are." What they mean by saying this is that in today's church there is no need to be different from the world. When a christian tries to address the issue of sin he is labeled a 'legalist'. But usually when a christian accuses another christian of being 'legalistic' in today's 21st century church, he is actually under conviction, trying to justify his own sinful lifestyle that he knows is not pleasing to the Lord. True, while legalism was once to the extreme declaring everything except breathing to be sin, today the church has gone to the other extreme where anything goes. As one pastor who owns a mega church here in Colorado Springs told Tom Brokaw, " sin is not an issue here ". Who wouldn't want to be told that sin is nothing to worry about or be concerned about?? People flock to what they want to hear. Again I ask... is " a new heaven and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness " truly something you are looking forward to or are you in love with this world and all it has to offer? Maybe this world is where you'd rather be for now, even though you are a christian. Are there things in this world that you might miss in the next life? I admit to myself that there are things I would miss that I know are not pleasing to the Lord. Are you honest enough with yourself to do this? My friend, think about Jesus. Do you still love Him? There was a moment when you would leave all to be with Him. Whatever happened to that feeling? Who else do you know that suffered and bled and died for you? Don't we owe it to the Lord to be like Paul when he said, " Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. " 2 Corinthians 5:6-9 Where is your heart today? Jesus said in Matthew 6:21, " For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. "
