On Being Humble
One of my most precious and favorite Bible verses is one that I read every day before I go to work and start most any day. It is located in Isaiah 57:15 - " For this is what the high and lofty One says - He who lives forever, whose name is holy: 'I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.'" Isaiah 57:18 - " I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will guide him and restore comfort to him..."
It is incredible to think that our Heavenly Father seeks people who are not haughty and proud, not boastful and arrogant, but rather humble in heart and mind. When He finds such a person He promised to live with him or her. Even as born again christians we often fall back into that selfish, self - centered mode that separates us from a close communion with our Lord. To humble ourselves before our Lord is a choice we must make. He does not force us to be humble and contrite. When Jesus left Heaven to come to earth He made a choice to 'humble Himself'. ( Philippians 2:8 ) Paul said in Philippians 2:5 " Your attitude should be the same as Christ..." It is a choice we must make.
Not only do we have our Lord's promise to live with us but He has promised to 'heal us'. Think of it. If we are not lying to ourselves we will admit to ourselves and to God that we need His healing touch, emotionally and mentally. His promise is to heal us of our ways. This He has promised to do if we make the choice to humble ourselves before Him.
Do this before you start your day and see if your day doesn't go better - especially on Mondays.
